Due to the Corona Virus pandemic, the Islamic Society of Greater Springfield has suspended all gatherings until further notice. This has taken on greater urgency given that there are confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Springfield. Prophet Muhammad over 1,400 years ago taught us the importance of protecting humanity from communicable diseases by not entering the places of an epidemic and not leaving an area which has an outbreak. The concept of quarantine and travel bans is endemic to the Islamic faith. Moreover, he taught the importance of washing hands frequently, covering one’s cough, and covering one’s sneeze with a shawl or cloth. He furthermore taught that cleanliness is half of faith, and the other half is completed by mastering one’s character. We are beginning to understand the wisdom of such teachings recently.

On behalf of the Muslim community of Springfield, we wish everyone safety, Divine grace, and auspiciousness.
